Ursula is feeling the Fiery Red* several times in chapter 31. One moment as love, an other as embarrassing or anger. Because of that, I am going to analyse "Fiery Red" a bit to get behind a step further behind the walls of Ursula.
Fiery Red: LOVE
She sees Matt. She is happy and don't think about her problems. She is feeling that Ugly Girl is fading away in moments, in which she is thinking about Matt. - She is in love.
Fiery Red: ANGER
She is arguing with her mother, who is trying to keep Ursula away from Matt as a relationship with him wouldn't be good for the Riggs' reputation. - She is in anger.
This is only an example of how polysemous Ursula's Fiery Red mood is, which leads away from the monotony that is created by Ursula's categorization of her feelings in only two moods (Fiery Red and Inky Black).
*Fiery Red (and Inky Black, too) should be written upper case as she is not meaning the color itself, but the meaning she is interpreting into it.
