Why I chose the title: "Gym Socks Eat Contest"? Easily because Matt calls this day (the day written down in chapter 13) "Nothing-Day" that smells like dirty socks (or "gym socks" -> chapter 11). And because I think that someone's mood is always influenceable by yourself, it's his own fault that he now is in a mood like lifelessness (keyword: "nothing"). And when you don't eat a Nothing-Day, you are trying to get a better mood, trying to change. But this Matt is actually not doing in chapter 13. He eats the gym socks. The burned toast. The Nothing-Day!
Summary: Matt quits his position as vice president of the junior class. Some things he thought to be valuable has no longer any importance for him (e.g. his position as vice president or his german mark).
