Chapter 48: The society looks at you - superficial.

Matt Donaghy is no longer "a ghost" in Rocky River High School, he is accepted again. Communication with him is no longer damaging the reputation.

This chapter shows how "real" his friends are (or better: how "unreal" they are). All the trouble is over and people are recognizing him as Matt Donaghy, the nice and friendly pupil, again. Ursula is elucidating what's happening. All the pupil are teached by their parents, teached to live with the pursuit of reputation. - They are educated to be phony.

At the top of that Matt is ordering his priorities. When some classmates ask him to come to their party, Matt only wants to go when Ursula is allowed to come with him. This shows that Matt is doing a great job as the male side of the relationship between Ursula and him.
